A Beagle named Moose

I would love to know the story of how this handsome Beagle got his name.  I was blessed to spend twelve years of my life with a Beagle named Ken. And because my name is Barbara I imagine its self explanatory how I chose the name.

The Norse God Loki offers Support

Loki
Loki

Loki came to me when I was junior in high school.  I shared a Spanish class with a girl whose cat had recently had kittens and, convinced that a kitten was exactly what I needed, I told her I would take one.  So, one day after school I stopped on my way home and picked him up.  It was a cold and slushy spring day and I tucked him inside the large front pocket of my hooded sweatshirt so that he would stay warm on the way.

I named Loki after the Norse god of Mischief.  It seemed like an apt name for a small curious cat.  Over time he lived up to his name.  If I had a book or magazine in my lap, he would jump up to cover the pages.  When I slept too late in the morning he would knock pens or papers from my desk to wake me.  Once, he snuck into my brother’s tennis bag and was almost taken to practice, but was discovered at the last minute.

His newest mischievous scheme is jumping atop my fridge.  Sometimes he does this to get a better view of whatever I may be doing with food on the counter top below and sometimes he does this so he can lean over the edge and bat at the take-out menus I have hung up with magnets.  When I open the door of the cupboard beneath the sink to reach for a pot or pan he will dart past me and then peer at me from the far dark corner.  I try to remember not to shut the door again until he comes out.  He’s almost eight now, and no longer fits into my pocket, but he’s as curious as ever.
